Streatham St Bartholomew's Chamber Orchestra

Welcome to St Bart’s!

We are a friendly classical orchestra and registered charity based in Streatham south-west London.

We usually hold three concerts a year, on a Sunday evening, mainly in local venues, although past locations include Southwark and St George’s Cathedrals, Arundel Castle, Croydon Clocktower and Fairfield Hall.

Our conductor is highly experienced both in the well-known classics and also in a more unusual repertoire. This leads to programmes attractive to audience and players alike, evidenced by high attendance at our concerts.

Our soloists usually come from the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, from where our conductors also sometimes come.

We raise money for charity through our concerts, and have raised tens of thousands of pounds during the 53 years we have been established. We have recently helped Red Cross for Ukraine, the Trussell Food Bank, CAFOD and the local World Heart Beat Academy.

Subscriptions are low and reduced for full-time students. There are no auditions, prospective members being invited to attend two or three rehearsals for a mutual trial run. At the moment, there are two vacancies to complete our cello section.

Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, 7.45 to 9.45pm, at St Bartholomew’s Church Hall, 159 Ellison Road, SW16 5DE, with ample parking and easy access from local transport.

If you are looking for a lively, welcoming orchestra that enjoys making music to a high standard and at the same time helps others less fortunate than ourselves, this is the orchestra for you.
